About this course
BEng in Biochemical Engineering, a chemical engineering degree centred on the application of engineering principles to biological systems and industrial processes. Core topics include Programming and Mathematical Modelling. Students complete a three-year undergraduate programme based at UCL. The first year introduces foundational subjects through Introduction to Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Bioprocess Analysis, establishing core engineering and biological principles. The second year develops practical and analytical abilities with modules such as Biochemistry of Protein Production for Biochemical Engineers, Fermentation and Bioreactor Engineering, and Heat and Mass Transfer in Bioprocesses, alongside optional choices including Manufacturing Regenerative Medicines: from Lab Bench to Industry, Intelligent Systems, and Introduction to Programming. The final year focuses on advanced professional applications via Bioprocess Plant Design, Biochemical Reaction Engineering, and Computer Aided Bioprocess Engineering.
