Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Bulgarian and Dutch, a German and Russian Studies degree centred on the study of two European languages and their respective cultures. Core topics include Research Methods. This four-year undergraduate programme incorporates a year abroad during the third year. The first year covers foundational language acquisition and cultural studies through An Introduction to Dutch Language and Culture, Bulgarian Language Level 1, and War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema. The second year builds proficiency with Intermediate Dutch Language and Culture, Bulgarian Language Level 2a-Comprehension, and Writing from the Other Europe. The third year consists of a year abroad. The fourth year concludes the degree with advanced linguistic study and a Free-standing Dissertation, alongside compulsory modules such as Advanced Dutch Language and Culture and Bulgarian Language Level 3a - Comprehension.
