Entry requirements
A level: ABB (A level or equivalent in a foreign language required (not necessarily one of the named languages). Applicants seeking to study two languages at beginner level should seek advice from the departments concerned.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Bulgarian and German, a German and Russian Studies degree spanning literature, history, and cultural studies across two academic departments. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes a compulsory third-year period spent abroad. The first year establishes language and cultural foundations through Introduction to German Studies 1, Introduction to German Studies 2, Bulgarian Language Level 1, and Literature and Memory. The second year advances linguistic proficiency with Bulgarian Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Bulgarian Language Level 2b-Production, Introduction to Bulgarian Culture and Literature, and Writing from the Other Europe. The third year consists of a study or work placement abroad. The final year focuses on advanced mastery and independent research through Discussion and Essay in German, Bulgarian Language Level 3a - Comprehension, Bulgarian Language Level 3b - Production, and a Free-standing Dissertation. Optional modules in various years allow students to explore topics such as film, history, translation, and specific regional literature.
