About this course

MEng in Computer Science and Mathematics, a computer science degree situated at the intersection of computer science and mathematical sciences. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The programme includes options for a study abroad period or a professional industry placement year. The first year covers core foundations through Algorithms and Theory of Computation, Programming and Software Development, and Analysis 1. The second year builds competence with Programming Language Concepts, Mathematical Methods 1, and Probability and Statistics, alongside optional choices such as Number Theory and Algebra 4: Groups and Rings. Third-year studies feature compulsory modules like Directed Reading and Computation and Complexity, while allowing optional exploration in topics such as Functional Programming, Quantum Computation, and Computer Graphics. The final fourth year centres on the compulsory Computer Science MEng Project / Dissertation, supported by specialised optional modules including Supervised Learning, Reinforcement Learning, and Introduction to Deep Learning.
