Entry requirements

A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)

About this course

BA in Czech and Danish, a German and RussianStudies degree centred on language acquisition alongside East European and Nordic cultural studies. The course includes a compulsory year abroad spent studying or working. The first year establishes language foundations through Introduction to Danish Language and Culture, Czech Language Level 1 and Literature and Memory. The second year progresses with Intermediate Danish Language and Culture, Czech Language Level 2a-Comprehension and Introduction to Czech Literature and Culture, alongside optional modules in subjects such as Intermediate Old Norse and Nordic Literature in Context. Year three consists of the SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes the programme with Advanced Danish Language and Culture, Czech Language Level 3a - Comprehension and Czech and Slovak Literature 3, complemented by optional studies in areas such as Translation from the Scandinavian Languages and Vikings and Valkyries in Contemporary Culture.
