Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Czech and German, a German and Russian Studies degree spanning the School of Slavonic and East European Studies and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society. The course includes a compulsory year abroad spent studying or working in the target language regions. The first year builds initial language abilities through Introduction to German Studies 1, Introduction to German Studies 2, and Czech Language Level 1. The second year continues linguistic progression via Czech Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Czech Language Level 2b-Production, and Introduction to Czech Literature and Culture. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes the programme with Discussion and Essay in German, Czech Language Level 3a - Comprehension, and Czech Language Level 3b - Production, alongside options such as German Political and Social Thought and Advanced German Translation.
