Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Czech and Italian, an Italian and Russian Studies degree centred on the study of two languages and their associated cultural traditions across two academic departments. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes a compulsory year abroad spent studying or working abroad. The first year covers foundational language acquisition and cultural history through modules such as First Year Italian Language, Introduction to Italian Studies 1, Czech Language Level 1 and War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema. The second year continues linguistic development with Second Year Italian Language, Czech Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Czech Language Level 2b-Production and Writing from the Other Europe, alongside optional modules covering Italian Culture during Fascism or Dante and Petrarch. The third year consists of a period spent abroad for language immersion. The final year involves advanced study through Final Year Italian Language, Czech Language Level 3a - Comprehension, Czech Language Level 3b - Production and Czech and Slovak Literature 3, with further options available such as Futurism in Italy or Dante: Divina Commedia, as well as an optional Free-standing Dissertation.
