Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Czech and Norwegian, a German and Russian Studies degree centred on the study of two distinct European languages and cultural traditions. Core topics include Research Methods. The course is taught across two departments, the School of Slavonic and East European Studies and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society, and includes an integrated year abroad. The first year introduces the fundamentals through Introduction to Norwegian Language and Culture, Czech Language Level 1, and War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema. The second year builds proficiency with Intermediate Norwegian Language and Culture, Czech Language Level 2a-Comprehension, and Writing from the Other Europe, alongside optional choices in Intermediate Swedish Language and Culture or Intermediate Old Norse. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes the programme with Advanced Norwegian Language and Culture, Czech Language Level 3a - Comprehension, and Czech and Slovak Literature 3, alongside optional modules such as Vikings and Valkyries in Contemporary Culture and Free-standing Dissertation.
