Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Czech and Polish, a Russian Studies degree centred on the study of Central and Eastern European languages, literature, and culture. Core topics include Research Methods. Students spend the third year completing a compulsory year abroad split across two terms to develop immersion experience. The first year introduces foundational linguistic skills and cultural study through Czech Language Level 1, Polish Language Level 1, Literature and Memory, and War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema. The second year builds proficiency through Czech Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Polish Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Introduction to Czech Literature and Culture, and Writing from the Other Europe. The third year consists of Year Abroad Term 1 and Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year advances mastery through Czech Language Level 3a - Comprehension, Polish Language Level 3a - Comprehension, Czech and Slovak Literature 3, and Polish Literature 3, with options including a Free-standing Dissertation.
