Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Czech and Romanian, a Russian Studies degree centred on the study of Czech and Romanian languages, literatures, and cultures. Core topics include Research Methods. This four-year undergraduate course incorporates a compulsory third year abroad spent studying or working in the target regions. The first year introduces the basics through compulsory modules such as Czech Language Level 1, Romanian Language Level 1, War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema, and Literature and Memory, alongside optional choices like Narratives of Exile. The second year continues language development with Czech Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Czech Language Level 2b-Production, Romanian Language Level 2a-Comprehension, and Romanian Language Level 2b - Production. The third year is spent on a compulsory Year Abroad Term 1 and Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year advances proficiency to final degree level through modules including Czech Language Level 3a - Comprehension, Czech Language Level 3b - Production, Czech and Slovak Literature 3, Romanian Language Level 3a - Comprehension, Romanian Language Level 3b - Production, and Romanian Literature 3. Students may also complete a Free-standing Dissertation as an optional module in the final year.
