About this course

BA in Czech and Spanish, a Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies and Russian Studies degree centred on the study of two major European languages and cultures. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes a compulsory year abroad spent studying or working in relevant countries. The first year covers foundational language acquisition through Czech Language Level 1, Spanish Language I, Literature and Memory, and War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema. The second year progresses to advanced comprehension and production through Czech Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Czech Language Level 2b-Production, Introduction to Czech Literature and Culture, and Spanish Language II, alongside optional topics such as History of Spain in the Twentieth Century and 20th Century Latin American Cinema: History, Politics, Aesthetics. The third year consists of a year abroad. The final year consolidates proficiency through Czech Language Level 3a - Comprehension, Czech Language Level 3b - Production, Czech and Slovak Literature 3, and Spanish Language III, with further choices including a Free-standing Dissertation and optional modules such as Crime Fictions in Latin America and Golden Age Drama: Plays, Players and Playing in Early Modern Spain.
