Entry requirements

A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)

About this course

BA in Danish and Dutch, a German degree focusing on European languages and cultural studies. The course includes a mandatory year abroad spent abroad to provide immersion in the societies associated with both languages. The first year establishes linguistic and cultural foundations through An Introduction to Dutch Language and Culture, Introduction to Dutch Studies 1, Introduction to Dutch Studies 2, and Introduction to Danish Language and Culture. The second year builds proficiency with Intermediate Dutch Language and Culture and Intermediate Danish Language and Culture, while offering optional modules such as Born out of Rebellion: The Netherlands from the Dutch Revolt to the Eve of World War I and Multiculturalism and Identity. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes the degree with Advanced Dutch Language and Culture, Advanced Danish Language and Culture, and Advanced Project Work in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, alongside optional modules including Low Countries Cinema and Vikings and Valkyries in Contemporary Culture.
