Entry requirements

A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)

About this course

BA in Danish and Polish, a German and Russian Studies degree centred on linguistic, literary and cultural studies across Northern and Eastern Europe. Core topics include Research Methods. Taught jointly across the School of Slavonic and East European Studies and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society, the programme includes a compulsory year abroad. The first year introduces foundational linguistic and cultural concepts through Introduction to Danish Language and Culture, Introduction to Nordic Studies 1, Polish Language Level 1, and Literature and Memory. The second year builds proficiency with Intermediate Danish Language and Culture, Polish Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Writing from the Other Europe, and Introduction to Polish Literature, alongside various optional Scandinavian language modules. The third year consists of a year abroad across terms one and two. The final year involves advanced study through Advanced Danish Language and Culture, Advanced Project Work in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, Polish Language Level 3a - Comprehension, and Polish Literature 3, with options ranging from Northern Sites and Cities: Perspectives of Urban and Cultural Geographies of the Nordic Region to a Free-standing Dissertation.
