Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Danish and Portuguese, a language degree centred on German and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies. A Year Abroad will immerse students in the cultures and societies of both languages. The first year covers foundations through Introduction to Portuguese Language and Lusophone Culture, Introduction to Portuguese Literature, Introduction to Danish Language and Culture, and Introduction to Nordic Studies 1. The second year builds proficiency with Intermediate Portuguese Language and Lusophone Culture and Intermediate Danish Language and Culture, alongside optional modules such as The Golden Age of Portuguese Travel Literature and Topics in Scandinavian Linguistics. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes studies with Advanced Dutch Language and Culture, Advanced Portuguese Language and Lusophone Culture, and Advanced Project Work in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, supported by optional modules like Short Fiction and the Making of Modern Brazil and Vikings and Valkyries in Contemporary Culture.
