Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Danish and Ukrainian, a German and Russian Studies degree spanning Scandinavian and East European languages and cultures. The course includes a compulsory year abroad. The first year covers foundational linguistic and cultural studies through Introduction to Danish Language and Culture, Introduction to Nordic Studies 1, War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema and Ukrainian Language Level 1. The second year progresses with Intermediate Danish Language and Culture alongside Ukrainian Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Ukrainian Language Level 2b-Production and Ukrainian Culture and Text A, while also offering optional choices such as Intermediate Swedish Language and Culture, Intermediate Norwegian Language and Culture, Intermediate Icelandic Language and Culture and Intermediate Old Norse. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes the degree with Advanced Danish Language and Culture, Advanced Project Work in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, The Making of Modern Ukraine I and Ukrainian Language Level 3a - Comprehension, with optional modules including Translation from the Scandinavian Languages, Vikings and Valkyries in Contemporary Culture and Viking-Age Scandinavia A.
