Entry requirements

A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)

About this course

BA in Dutch and Italian, a German and Italian degree focusing on the acquisition of two languages alongside the history, literature, and culture of the Netherlands, Flanders, and Italy. The course includes a compulsory year abroad spent immersing in the societies of both languages. The first year builds foundational proficiency through An Introduction to Dutch Language and Culture, Introduction to Dutch Studies 1, First Year Italian Language, and Introduction to Italian Studies 1. The second year progresses to intermediate language study alongside optional choices covering historical and literary topics such as Modern Dutch Literary Texts and Dante and Petrarch. The third year consists of a compulsory year abroad across both linguistic regions. The final year consolidates fluency through Advanced Dutch Language and Culture and Final Year Italian Language, while offering advanced optional modules and the chance to complete a Project in Dutch.
