A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)

About this course

BA in Dutch and Norwegian, a German degree covering Dutch and Norwegian language, culture and literature over four academic years. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes a compulsory year abroad spent abroad studying or working in the target language regions. The first year introduces the fundamentals through An Introduction to Dutch Language and Culture, Introduction to Dutch Studies 1, Introduction to Norwegian Language and Culture, and Introduction to Nordic Studies 1. The second year builds competence via Intermediate Dutch Language and Culture and Intermediate Norwegian Language and Culture, alongside optional choices such as Born out of Rebellion: The Netherlands from the Dutch Revolt to the Eve of World War I and Intermediate Old Norse. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The final year involves advanced study including Advanced Dutch Language and Culture, Advanced Norwegian Language and Culture, and Advanced Project Work in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, with options ranging from Low Countries Cinema to Advanced Old Norse and a final-year Dissertation in Scandinavian Studies.
