Entry requirements

A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)

About this course

BA in Dutch and Polish, a German and Russian studies degree centred on language acquisition and cultural history. Core topics include Research Methods. The course is taught across the School of Slavonic and East European Studies and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society, and includes an academic year spent abroad. The first year covers language foundations and early cultural history through An Introduction to Dutch Language and Culture, Introduction to Dutch Studies 1, Introduction to Dutch Studies 2, and Polish Language Level 1. The second year builds proficiency with Intermediate Dutch Language and Culture, Introduction to Polish Literature, and Polish Language Level 2a-Comprehension, alongside optional study in subjects such as Modern Dutch Literary Texts. The third year consists of a year abroad placement. The final year focuses on advanced proficiency through Advanced Dutch Language and Culture, Polish Language Level 3a - Comprehension, and Polish Literature 3, with further options including Low Countries Cinema, Advanced Translation, and a Free-standing Dissertation.
