Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Dutch and Russian, a German and Russian Studies degree centred on the study of Dutch and Russian languages, cultures, and histories. Core topics include Research Methods. The course is taught across two departments, the School of Slavonic and East European Studies and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society, and includes an academic year spent abroad. The first year covers introductory material through An Introduction to Dutch Language and Culture, Introduction to Dutch Studies 1, Introduction to Dutch Studies 2, Introduction to Russian Studies I, and Introduction to Russian Studies II. The second year continues with Intermediate Dutch Language and Culture, alongside optional modules such as Modern Dutch Literary Texts and Russian Poetry from Pushkin to Brodsky. The third year consists of a year abroad across term 1 and term 2. The final year involves advanced study through Advanced Dutch Language and Culture, Comprehension of Russian (Year 4), and Use of Russian (Year 4). Students can also select from various options in their final year, including Project in Dutch, Low Countries Cinema, and The Person, Love and Utopia in Russian Thought.
