About this course

BA in Dutch and Spanish, a German and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies degree focusing on the acquisition of two European languages and cultures. Students spend the third year abroad on an integrated placement. The curriculum requires four academic years to complete. The first year covers foundational language acquisition and cultural contexts through An Introduction to Dutch Language and Culture, Introduction to Dutch Studies 1, Spanish Language I, and Introduction to Spanish and Latin American Studies 1. The second year progresses to Intermediate Dutch Language and Culture and Spanish Language II, alongside optional topics such as Modern Dutch Literary Texts, Multiculturalism and Identity, Spanish Narrative, Essay and Drama, and History of Colonial Latin America. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes studies with Advanced Dutch Language and Culture and Spanish Language III, supported by further options including Project in Dutch, Low Countries Cinema, Advanced Translation, and Golden Age Drama: Plays, Players and Playing in Early Modern Spain.
