IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. About this course
BA in Education, Society and Culture, an education degree drawing on history, philosophy, sociology and psychology to examine educational structures. Core topics include Research Methods and Historical Research. Students can apply for optional study abroad opportunities, including short-term internships or a full year abroad at a partner university. The first year covers foundational concepts through compulsory modules such as Living in a Schooled Society, Foundations in the Sociology of Education, How People Learn, and Understanding Education Research: Numbers, Narratives, Knowledge and Nonsense, alongside optional choices like Literacy, Language and Communication. The second year examines political and global contexts with compulsory modules Policy and Politics in Education and Global issues in Education, while offering optional modules such as Researching Education and Society: Qualitative Methods and The Learning Sciences. The final year centres on independent research through the compulsory module Dissertation on Education Studies, complemented by optional studies in areas such as Social History of Learning and Learners, and Gender, Sexuality and Feminisms in Everyday Lives.
