BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering
Entry requirements
A level: A*AA (A* in Mathematics required, plus either Physics or Further Mathematics preferred as the second subject. Where students have Further Mathematics but not Physics then it is preferable to have Biology, Chemistry, Design and Technology, or Electronics as the third subject.) IB: 39 points (A total of 19 points in three higher level subjects including grade 7 in Mathematics, with no higher level score below 5. The course will accept either ‘Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches’ or ‘Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation’ at higher level. ‘Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches’ is preferred. Higher levels in Physics, Further Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Design and Technology and Electronics preferred.)
About this course
BEng in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, an electrical and electronic engineering degree focused on the hardware, software and physical principles behind modern infrastructure. Core topics include Programming, Circuit Design, Signal Processing, Control Systems, Mathematical Modelling, and Ethics & Professional Practice. Students can choose to undertake an optional year in industry. The first year establishes fundamental theory through compulsory modules such as Introduction to Electronic Engineering, Analog and Power Electronics 1, Digital Electronics 1, and Mathematical Modelling and Analysis 1. The second year continues with core studies including Design and Professional Practice 2, Analog Electronics, Digital Design, and Mathematical Modelling and Analysis II, alongside optional choices such as Intelligent Systems and Introduction to Robotics. The third year centres on a compulsory Project I and Sustainable Energy Systems, complemented by various optional modules covering advanced topics such as Power Electronics, Control Systems I, and Digital Signal Processing and Systems.
