Entry requirements
A level: AAB (At least one subject from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology.) IB: 36 points (A score of 17 points in three higher level subjects including one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Psychology with no higher level score below 5. If Mathematics is offered at higher level, the course will accept either ‘Analysis and Approaches’ or ‘Applications and Interpretation.)
About this course
BSc in Experimental Linguistics with Study Abroad, an English Language and Linguistics degree focusing on quantitative and scientific approaches to human language. Core topics include Statistics. The third year of this four-year degree is spent studying at an overseas partner institution. The first year covers foundational concepts through Introduction to Statistical Methods, Introduction to Phonetics, Introduction to Phonology, and Introduction To Generative Grammar. The second year progresses to Intermediate Statistical Methods, Psycholinguistics: General Processing, and Introduction to Children's Language Development, alongside optional modules such as Intermediate Pragmatics and Semantic Theory. The third year consists of international placement components including the Year-Abroad Project and Progress Portfolio A. The final year involves advanced study and research through the Long Essay/Project and Experimental Linguistics Laboratory, supported by optional choices like Neurolinguistics, Sociolinguistics, and Introduction to Computational Linguistics.
