Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Finnish and French, a modern languages degree focused on the study of French and Francophone Studies and Modern Languages. This four-year course is taught across the School of Slavonic and East European Studies and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society. The first year introduces both languages through modules such as Use of French 1, French Oral 1, Introduction to Nordic Studies 1, and Finnish Language Level 1. The second year develops proficiency further with Use of French 2, French Oral 2, Finnish Language Level 2a-Comprehension, and Introduction to Finnish Society and Culture, alongside optional modules covering literary periods, historical contexts, and film history. The third year consists of a year abroad spent in relevant regions. The final year involves advanced study through French Oral 3, Use of French 3, Finnish Language Level 3a - Comprehension, and Advanced Finnish Society and Culture, with additional optional modules available in translation, literature, cultural history, and gender studies.
