Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Finnish and Italian, a modern languages degree centred on Italian and Modern Languages. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes a compulsory year abroad. The first year covers foundations through First Year Italian Language, Introduction to Italian Studies 1, Introduction to Nordic Studies 1 and Finnish Language Level 1. The second year focuses on Second Year Italian Language, Finnish Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Finnish Language Level 2b-Production and Introduction to Finnish Society and Culture. Optional modules in the second year allow study in areas such as Italian Culture during Fascism, Issues in Italian Syntax, Nordic Literature in Context and Nordic Politics and Society. The fourth year includes Final Year Italian Language, Finnish Language Level 3a - Comprehension, Finnish Language Level 3b - Production and Advanced Finnish Society and Culture. Optional modules in the final year cover subjects like Futurism in Italy, Nation, Culture and Society in Italy, 1860-1914, Nordic Cinema and Nordic Landscapes, alongside a Free-standing Dissertation.
