Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Finnish and Romanian, a modern languages degree within Russian Studies and Modern Languages. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes a compulsory academic year spent abroad. The first year builds foundational proficiency through Finnish Language Level 1, Romanian Language Level 1, Introduction to Nordic Studies 1, and War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema. The second year advances linguistic and cultural knowledge via Finnish Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Finnish Language Level 2b-Production, Romanian Language Level 2a-Comprehension, and Introduction to Romanian Literature, alongside optional modules such as Nordic Literature in Context. The third year consists of Year Abroad Term 1 and Year Abroad Term 2. The final year refines advanced capabilities through Finnish Language Level 3a - Comprehension, Advanced Finnish Society and Culture, Romanian Language Level 3a - Comprehension, and Romanian Literature 3, with further options including Crime and Small Communities in Nordic Literature and a Free-standing Dissertation.
