About this course
BA in Finnish and Spanish, a modern languages degree centred on Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies and Modern Languages. Core topics include Research Methods. The course is taught across the School of Slavonic and East European Studies and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society, and incorporates a compulsory year abroad. The first year introduces the fundamentals through Finnish Language Level 1, Spanish Language I, Introduction to Nordic Studies 1 and Introduction to Spanish and Latin American Studies 1. The second year builds proficiency with Finnish Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Finnish Language Level 2b-Production, Introduction to Finnish Society and Culture and Spanish Language II, alongside optional choices covering Nordic Literature in Context and Nordic Politics and Society. The third year is spent abroad. The fourth and final year involves advanced study including Finnish Language Level 3a - Comprehension, Finnish Language Level 3b - Production, Advanced Finnish Society and Culture and Spanish Language III, with further options such as Nordic Cinema, Crime and Small Communities in Nordic Literature and a Free-standing Dissertation.
