Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in French and Norwegian, a French and Francophone Studies and German degree exploring the language, literature and culture of both nations across a four-year curriculum. Students undertake a compulsory third-year period abroad in relevant linguistic environments. The first year covers language acquisition and cultural foundations through Use of French 1, The Making of Modern France, Introduction to Norwegian Language and Culture, and Introduction to Nordic Studies 1. The second year builds proficiency via Use of French 2 and Intermediate Norwegian Language and Culture, alongside optional modules such as The Medieval Period, French Film History, and An Introduction to Literary Theory. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes studies with French Oral 3, Use of French 3, Advanced Norwegian Language and Culture, and Advanced Project Work in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish. Optional subjects in the final year include Advanced Translation, Comics in French, and French Existentialism: Sartre, Coffee, and Cigarettes.
