Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in French and Ukrainian, a French and Francophone Studies and Russian Studies degree centred on modern languages, cultural studies and regional history. The course includes a compulsory year abroad split across terms. Students spend four academic years studying across two distinct departments. The first year introduces foundational language acquisition and cultural history through modules such as Use of French 1, The Making of Modern France, War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema and Ukrainian Language Level 1. The second year continues language proficiency alongside specialised texts, with compulsory study including Use of French 2, Ukrainian Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Ukrainian Culture and Text A and Ukrainian Culture and Text B, complemented by optional modules covering literary periods and French film history. The third year consists of study abroad options. The final year focuses on advanced mastery through modules such as French Oral 3, Use of French 3, The Making of Modern Ukraine I and Ukrainian Language Level 3a - Comprehension, with further options available in literature, history and cultural studies.
