About this course
BA in French and Yiddish, a modern languages degree centred on linguistic acquisition and cultural study. Core topics include Research Methods. Students spend the third year abroad to immerse themselves in the cultures of both languages. The first year covers language foundations and cultural context through Use of French 1, The Making of Modern France, French Oral 1, and Yiddish Language 1. The second year builds proficiency with Use of French 2 and Yiddish Language 2, while offering optional modules such as The Medieval Period, French Film History, and Discourses of Equality. The third year consists of study abroad terms. The final year concentrates on advanced proficiency through French Oral 3 and Use of French 3, alongside optional modules including Advanced Translation, Comics in French, and a dissertation.
