About this course

BSc in Geophysics, an Earth and Environmental Sciences degree covering the physical processes shaping the planet through geological, mathematical and computational approaches. Core topics include Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The programme spans three academic years and concludes with an independent field geophysics project. The first year introduces foundational concepts through compulsory modules such as Earth Materials, Dynamic Earth, Surface Processes, and Classical Mechanics. The second year advances core knowledge with Global Geophysics, Structural Geology and Tectonics, Numerical Methods for Earth Sciences, and Electricity and Magnetism, alongside optional studies in topics like Sedimentology and Stratigraphy or Principles of Climate. The final year focuses on advanced compulsory subjects including Seismology I, Seismology II, Geodynamics and Global Tectonics, and Statistics for Geoscientists. Students can further tailor their studies in the final year through optional modules covering areas such as Ocean Physics and Climate Change, Groundwater Science, and Artificial Intelligence for Earth Observations (AI4EO).
