A level: AAA (English Literature/English Language and Literature grade A required, foreign language preferred.) IB: 38 points (A total of 18 points in three higher level subjects, to include English Language and Literature/English Literature grade 6, no higher level score below 5. Higher level in foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in German and English, an English and German degree combining the study of Germanic literature, history, and film with English language and literature. A compulsory year abroad takes place during the third academic year to immerse students in German society and culture. The first year introduces foundational study through modules such as Introduction to German Studies 1 and Introduction to German Studies 2, alongside optional choices like Narrative Texts, Introduction to Old and Middle English, Criticism and Theory, Modern German Language and Culture, and German for Beginners 1. The second year offers various optional modules covering literature and history, including Chaucer and his Literary Background, Renaissance I (1520-1625), Critical Commentary and Analysis, Renaissance II (1625-1700), The Romantic Period, The Victorian Period, American Literature to 1900, Old English Literature I, Old English Literature II, and History of the English Language. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes the programme with the compulsory module Discussion and Essay in German, alongside further optional modules such as Shakespeare, Renaissance I (1520-1625), Critical Commentary and Analysis, Renaissance II (1625-1700), The Romantic Period, The Victorian Period, American Literature to 1900, Old English Literature I, Old English Literature II, and History of the English Language.
