Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in German and Italian, a German and Italian degree focused on linguistic proficiency and cultural studies. Students spend the third year on a compulsory year abroad to immerse themselves in both societies. The first year establishes language and academic foundations through Introduction to German Studies 1, Introduction to German Studies 2, First Year Italian Language, Introduction to Italian Studies 1, and Introduction to Italian Studies 2. The second year continues linguistic development with Second Year Italian Language, alongside optional modules covering historical and literary topics such as Aspects of Twentieth Century German History and Italian Culture during Fascism. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The final year involves advanced study featuring compulsory modules Discussion and Essay in German and Final Year Italian Language, supported by optional choices such as German Political and Social Thought and Futurism in Italy.
