About this course

BA in German and Philosophy, a German and Philosophy degree centred on Germanic literature, history, film, and philosophical debates. The curriculum includes a mandatory third-year period spent abroad in a German-speaking environment. The first year covers introductory foundations through compulsory modules Introduction to German Studies 1 and Introduction to German Studies 2, alongside a wide range of optional philosophy and language modules. Year two offers further specialisation in literary and historical topics such as Nietzsche, Ethics and Society, and German Translation. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and SELCS Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes with compulsory study in Discussion and Essay in German alongside advanced options including Advanced German Translation and History and Representation: The Holocaust as a Case Study.
