About this course
BA in Hebrew and Norwegian, a German and Hebrew and Jewish Studies degree centred on the study of language, literature and culture. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes an integrated year spent abroad to immerse students in the cultures and societies of both regions. The first year covers foundational language learning and cultural context through Modern Hebrew Language 1, Kita Alef: Introduction to Jewish Studies, Introduction to Norwegian Language and Culture, Introduction to Nordic Studies 1, and Introduction to Nordic Studies 2, alongside optional choices such as Modern Jewish History (Antisemitism, Migration, and Identity) and Introduction to Judaism. The second year builds proficiency with Modern Hebrew Language 2 and Intermediate Norwegian Language and Culture, alongside options like Yiddish Language 1 and Nordic Literature in Context. The third year consists of study abroad periods through SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and Hebrew and Jewish Studies Study Abroad 1. The final year concludes with advanced studies including Modern Hebrew Language 4 and Advanced Norwegian Language and Culture, with further options such as Final Year Dissertation, European Jewry and the Holocaust, and Vikings and Valkyries in Contemporary Culture.
