Entry requirements

A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)

About this course

BA in Hebrew and Portuguese, a Hebrew and Jewish Studies degree exploring language, literature and cultural history. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes a compulsory third year spent studying abroad to immerse students in the societies of both languages. The first year establishes foundations through Modern Hebrew Language 1, Introduction to Portuguese Language and Lusophone Culture, and Introduction to Portuguese Literature. The second year progresses with Modern Hebrew Language 2, Intermediate Portuguese Language and Lusophone Culture, and The Golden Age of Portuguese Travel Literature. The third year consists of study abroad terms. The final year concludes with advanced studies including Modern Hebrew Language 4, Advanced Portuguese Language and Lusophone Culture, and Short Fiction and the Making of Modern Brazil, alongside an optional dissertation.
