About this course
BA in History of Art, Materials and Technology, a history of art degree examining visual art and material culture through the lens of technology and making. Core topics include Research Methods. Students can study public collections in London and apply for an optional third-year study-abroad placement. The first year introduces foundational themes through compulsory modules such as History of Art and its Objects, Introduction to Art and Science, and Introduction to Media and Technologies, alongside historical surveys. The second year progresses to specialised study involving compulsory modules like Theory and History of Conservation and Scientific Analysis of Artists' Materials, with optional routes available in areas such as Methodologies of Making and Architecture and Modernity.
