Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Italian and Ukrainian, an Italian and Russian Studies degree spanning literature, history, and language acquisition. Core topics include Research Methods. Students spend the third year abroad to immerse themselves in the language and culture. The first year builds fundamental linguistic and analytical competence through modules such as First Year Italian Language, Introduction to Italian Studies 1, War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema, and Ukrainian Language Level 1. The second year continues language progression alongside specialized study with modules like Second Year Italian Language, Ukrainian Language Level 2a-Comprehension, Ukrainian Culture and Text A, and optional topics such as Italian Culture during Fascism or Writing Women in Renaissance Italy. The third year consists of an integrated period spent abroad. The final year concentrates on advanced proficiency and specialized themes through compulsory modules including Final Year Italian Language, The Making of Modern Ukraine I, and Ukrainian Language Level 3a - Comprehension, while optional choices span areas like Futurism in Italy and Dante: Divina Commedia, alongside a Free-standing Dissertation.
