A level: AAB (English Language preferred.) IB: 36 points (A score of 17 points in three higher level subjects preferably to include English Language, with no higher level score below 5.)
About this course
BA in Linguistics, an English Language and Linguistics degree focused on the scientific study of human speech, grammatical structure and meaning. The first year establishes foundational knowledge through compulsory modules including Introduction to Phonology, Introduction to Phonetics, Introduction To Generative Grammar and Introduction to Semantics and Pragmatics A. Students examine sound patterns, grammar and meaning during this introductory stage. The second year provides opportunities to select optional modules such as Semantic Theory, Intermediate Pragmatics and Intermediate Phonology. The final year involves independent research culminating in a compulsory Long Essay/Project. Students can further tailor their studies by choosing from advanced optional modules like Advanced Semantic Theory, Current Issues in Syntax and Pragmatics and Cognition.
