BEng Mechanical Engineering
Entry requirements
A level: A*AA (Mathematics and Physics required. A* must be in one of the required subjects. Design and Technology, Engineering, Economics, Geography, Chemistry and Biology preferred as a third subject (in that order), but not essential.) IB: 39 points (A total of 19 points in three higher level subjects including Mathematics and Physics, with no higher level score below 5. Higher Level 7, 6 required in Mathematics and Physics in any order. The programme will accept either ‘Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches’ or ‘Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation’ at higher level. Economics preferred as third higher level subject, but not essential.)
About this course
BEng in Mechanical Engineering, a mechanical engineering degree focusing on core analytical and design principles. Core topics include Programming and Mathematical Modelling. This three-year bachelor's degree includes an option for an additional year abroad or in industry. The first year establishes fundamentals through modules such as Engineering Challenges, Introduction to Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Dynamics, and Fundamentals of Materials. The second year progresses into specialized technical content, featuring Mechanics of Solids and Structures, Engineering Materials: Failures and Design, Vibrations and Control, and Thermofluids II, alongside optional modules covering topics such as intelligent systems, robotics, and environmental engineering. The final year centres on an undergraduate individual project, supported by compulsory advanced study in Thermofluids III and Advanced Mechanics of Solids and Structures, with further optional modules available in computational fluid dynamics and advanced design.
