Entry requirements

A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)

About this course

BA in Norwegian and Portuguese, a German and Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies degree focusing on the study of two distinct languages and their respective cultural contexts. Students spend the third year participating in a year abroad placement immersing them in the societies of both languages. During the first year, studies build foundational knowledge through Introduction to Portuguese Language and Lusophone Culture, The Brazilian Novel, and Introduction to Norwegian Language and Culture. The second year progresses to intermediate linguistic studies alongside optional modules such as Afro-Brazilian Literature in Translation and Topics in Scandinavian Linguistics. The fourth year centres on advanced language acquisition, featuring compulsory modules like Advanced Portuguese Language and Lusophone Culture and Advanced Project Work in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish. Optional studies in the final year include choices such as Music, Nations, Society and The Cinema of Resistance: Second World War.
