Entry requirements
A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)
About this course
BA in Norwegian and Romanian, a German and Russian Studies degree spanning Scandinavian and East European languages and cultures. Core topics include Research Methods. The course includes a compulsory year abroad and is taught across the School of Slavonic and East European Studies and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society. The first year covers language foundations through Introduction to Norwegian Language and Culture, Introduction to Nordic Studies 1, War, Trauma and Memory in East European Cinema and Romanian Language Level 1. The second year progresses with Intermediate Norwegian Language and Culture, Writing from the Other Europe, Romanian Language Level 2a-Comprehension and Introduction to Romanian Literature, alongside optional modules in Intermediate Danish Language and Culture 2, Intermediate Swedish Language and Culture and Nordic Literature in Context. The third year consists of SELCS Year Abroad Term 1 and Year Abroad Term 2. The fourth year concludes with Advanced Norwegian Language and Culture, Advanced Project Work in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, Romanian Language Level 3a - Comprehension and Romanian Literature 3, with further optional modules including Northern Sites and Cities: Perspectives of Urban and Cultural Geographies of the Nordic Region, Translation from the Scandinavian Languages and Free-standing Dissertation.
