Entry requirements

A level: ABB (Previous study of a foreign language is preferred (not necessarily one of the named languages) but not required. Applicants may study two languages at beginner level and may seek advice from the departments concerned if needed.) IB: 34 points (A total of 16 points in three higher level subjects, with no higher level score below 5. Foreign language preferred.)

About this course

BA in Norwegian and Serbian/Croatian, a humanities degree within the School of Slavonic and East European Studies. Core topics include Research Methods. This four-year course is taught across two departments, namely the School of Slavonic and East European Studies and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society, and includes an optional year abroad. The first year covers language and cultural foundations through Introduction to Norwegian Language and Culture, Introduction to Nordic Studies 1, and Serbian and Croatian Language Level 1. The second year progresses with Intermediate Norwegian Language and Culture, Serbian and Croatian Language Level 2a-Comprehension, and Introduction to Serbian and Croatian Literature, alongside optional language choices such as Intermediate Swedish Language and Culture or Intermediate Icelandic Language and Culture. The third year consists of optional study abroad placements. The final year requires Advanced Norwegian Language and Culture, Advanced Project Work in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, and Serbian and Croatian Language Level 3a - Comprehension. Optional modules in the final year include Translation from the Scandinavian Languages and Vikings and Valkyries in Contemporary Culture, with a Free-standing Dissertation also available.
