About this course
BA in English and German, an English and German degree combining language study with comparative literature across two distinct cultural traditions. The course includes a year abroad spent studying, working, or acting as a language assistant at an overseas partner institution. Students take a core German language module in every year of study, with German available at beginner, post-beginner, or advanced levels. The first year introduces literature and culture from both traditions through core and optional core modules. Intermediate and final years open up all English and German optional modules spanning literature, critical theory, history, politics, linguistics, philosophy, and film. In the final year, students may complete a dissertation, which can address a comparative topic covering both English and German literature.
