About this course
MEng in Civil Engineering, a civil engineering degree centred on the practice of improving and maintaining the built and natural environment. This course is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators including the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institution of Highway Engineers, Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Permanent Way Institution. The first year follows a general engineering programme before specialisation, and the fourth year includes a group project alongside specialist core and optional modules. Students follow a shared general engineering programme for the first year to build an understanding of classical engineering principles before focusing specifically on civil engineering. In later stages, study centres on fundamental principles of analysis, design, sustainability and safety. The fourth year of the MEng degree provides opportunities to explore specialist areas through advanced core and optional module choices.
