BSc Biomedical Science with Foundation
About this course
BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science with Foundation BSc (Hons), a biomedical science and biological sciences degree focused on the scientific study of human health, disease mechanisms, and diagnostic procedures. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Ethics & Professional Practice. Students begin with a foundation year to build core academic competencies before completing a three-year honours programme that includes options for an industry placement year or a period of study abroad. The course starts with Year 0 modules such as Biology, Bioscience in Action, and Chemistry, which establish foundational knowledge in the life and physical sciences. Year 1 introduces core subjects including Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Functional Anatomy, and Human Physiology, alongside optional modules like Fundamentals of Pharmacology and Principles of Human Nutrition. Year 2 advances into disease processes and laboratory methods through compulsory modules such as Applied Pathobiology, Infection and Immunity, Metabolic Biochemistry, and Research Methods, complemented by optional studies in areas like Bioinformatics and Human Parasitology. The final year focuses on advanced diagnostics and pathology via compulsory modules including Cellular and Molecular Pathology, Clinical Immunology and Immunohaematology, and Diagnostic Biochemistry and Haematology, culminating in an independent Final Year Project in Life Sciences.
