BEng Software Engineering with Electronics
About this course
BEng (Hons) in Software Engineering with Electronics, an electrical and electronic engineering degree focused on computer systems engineering bridging hardware and software. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Project Management, Engineering Design, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Design & Creative Practice. Practical elements feature laboratory work and work-based design tasks, culminating in an extended final project. The first year establishes core fundamentals through modules such as Applied Mathematics, Digital Systems Design, Microcontroller Project, Principles and Fundamentals of Electronics, Programming Methodology, and Foundations of Professional Computing. The second year advances into specialized technical areas with compulsory studies including Data Structures and Algorithms, Embedded Systems Project (WBL), Object Oriented Programming (C++), Operating Systems, and Sensors and Signals. Students can also select from optional modules in this year including Applied Deep Learning, Practical Machine Learning, Mobile Application Development, Robotic Principles, and Back-end Web Development. The final year focuses on advanced system implementation through compulsory modules such as Cyber Security, Operating Systems and Systems Programming, Software Engineering with Electronics Final Project, and Real-Time Embedded Systems. Optional studies in the final year cover areas such as Applied AI, Applied Robotics, Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Design Project, Internet of Things, and Secure Scalable AI and Cloud Computing.
