About this course

BA (Hons) in Heritage and Archaeology, an archaeology and heritage degree centred on the study of material culture, historical interpretation, and preservation. Core topics include Research Methods. The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and includes practical experience gained through a field school. Facilities include specialist laboratories and dedicated digital heritage resources. The first year introduces foundational concepts through Prehistory to the Present, Artefacts and Materials, Archaeological Theory, and Heritage Practices. The second year builds practical competencies with modules such as Field Archaeology Survey Skills, Artefacts Analysis, Computational Archaeology, and Human and Animal Bones, alongside optional modules like Post-Excavation. The final year focuses on advanced study and independent research through a dissertation, alongside compulsory modules such as Ancient DNA, Human Evolution, and Public Participation in Museums and Archaeology.
