About this course
BA (Hons) Education and French (with a year abroad), an education and French (with a year abroad) degree centred on the study of teaching, learning, and linguistic proficiency across international contexts. Core topics include Research Methods. Students spend the third year abroad studying at an international university or undertaking a work placement or internship in a French-speaking environment. The first year covers foundational educational concepts, cultural approaches, and French language levels through compulsory modules such as Researching Education, Key Concepts in Education, French Language and Cultures: Upper intermediate, and Understanding French Cultures and Societies (Post-A level). The second year advances linguistic and research skills with compulsory modules including French Language and Cultures: Advanced and Educational Research Methods, while optional choices span topics such as teaching English as a foreign language, sociology, and educational policy. The final year involves advanced language study and an Empirical Education Dissertation alongside optional modules covering areas such as translation, global development, and environmental education.
