A level: AAA/A*AB including an A in English Literature (English Language and Literature is also acceptable) IB: 36 points including 6 in English Literature at Higher Level (Higher Level English Language and Literature is also acceptable) BTEC: DDD with an additional A Level or equivalent qualification in English Literature at grade A
About this course
BA (Hons) English Literature is a degree in the field of English Literature that explores texts from various historical periods and global contexts. Core topics include Research Methods and Design & Creative Practice. Students can optionally add a placement year or a year abroad to extend the duration of the course. The first year introduces foundational themes through compulsory modules such as Writing Modernity, Other Worlds, Classics and Cultural Translations, and Empire and Aftermaths. In the second year, students choose from a diverse selection of optional modules covering historical periods, international literatures, and cinema studies, including The Renaissance, Inventing Britain, 1700-1830, and Creative Writing: Contemporary Practice. The final year centres on an independent English Dissertation or Dissertation with Creative Practice, alongside advanced optional modules like Green Romanticism: Nature, Ecology, Calamity and The Villains of Romantic Gothic.
